My Time @ Credit Suisse

Overview

During my tenure as a Product Designer at Credit Suisse within the Risk and Compliance sector, I leveraged my UX/UI design expertise to bridge the gap between complex financial systems and user needs.

Goals

Product Designers in the Risk and Compliance sector of a bank are tasked with simplifying complex financial data and workflows.  We achieved this by crafting clear visualizations and user interfaces, while simultaneously bridging the gap between user needs and business objectives.  This ensured efficient operations, minimized risk, and fostered a user-friendly environment for navigating the intricacies of financial compliance.

Services

  • Translating complex data into clear and concise visuals, dashboards, and reports that enable risk analysts and compliance officers to make informed decisions quickly.
  • Designing user interfaces and workflows that are intuitive and efficient, minimizing errors and ensuring adherence to regulations.
  • Bridging the gap between user needs and business goals by designing solutions that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and ensure regulatory compliance with help from product managers, subject experts, and key stakeholders.

My impact as a

Product
Designer

Being a Product Designer within Risk & Compliance had many challenges along with some key responsibilities:

  • Collaborated cross-functionally with stakeholders, product managers, engineers, and business analysts to design internal-facing digital tools for Risk & Compliance, fostering a user-centered approach and ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Established a comprehensive and reusable design library within our design system.
  • Facilitated and supported Design Thinking Workshops across the bank, empowering teams to adopt a user-centric approach to problem-solving and product development.
  • Designed and developed a suite of user-friendly internal financial tools within Risk and Compliance sector of the Swiss bank.

My design solutions directly contributed to ensuring user-centricity within this critical department. I focused on creating intuitive user interfaces and streamlined workflows, and the positive impact was evident.

Being a part of a product design team at a Swiss bank was an exhilarating experience, as I got to collaborate with talented professionals from diverse backgrounds, all dedicated to creating innovative solutions for our clients. I felt a sense of pride knowing that our efforts were shaping the future of risk & compliance within the bank and delivering top-notch user experiences for users around the world.

Lastly, my team was like family to me, and this is what I cherish most from my experience at the bank. My team members were people that I could count on and continue to learn from on a daily basis. I eventually had the chance to help lead projects with the full support of my manager and team, and that gave me a profound sense of purpose and satisfaction in my role.

  • I learned to navigate the space between user needs and business objectives. My design solutions not only addressed user pain points but also contributed to the bank's overall goals of reduced risk exposure, improved regulatory compliance, and enhanced decision-making.
  • The importance of clear and concise data visualization was paramount. I honed my skills in translating complex financial data into user-friendly dashboards and reports, empowering risk and compliance professionals with the information they need to make informed decisions quickly and effectively.
  • The success of any design project hinges on collaboration. Working closely with stakeholders across Risk and Compliance, as well as other departments within Credit Suisse, ensured that my designs were feasible, aligned with business needs, and met the specific requirements of the users.

Our Design Thinking Process

01
Empathize
Conduct research in order to develop knowledge about what your users do, say, think, and feel. The design team seeks to understand and empathize with the end-users or customers of the product or service. This involves conducting research, interviews, surveys, and observations to gain insights into the users' needs, pain points, and behaviors. The goal is to develop a deep understanding of the user's perspective and their unique challenges.
02
Define
After gathering insights and data in the empathy stage, the next step is to define the problem statement or design challenge. This stage involves synthesizing the information collected during the empathy stage to identify key issues, pain points, and opportunities. The team creates a clear and focused problem statement that guides the rest of the design process.
03
Ideate
Ideation is the stage where the design team generates a wide range of creative ideas and potential solutions to address the defined problem. There are various brainstorming techniques and creative exercises used to encourage innovative thinking. The emphasis is on quantity and diversity of ideas rather than evaluating or refining them at this stage.
04
Prototype
The design team creates tangible representations of the ideas generated during ideation. These prototypes can take many forms, from low-fidelity sketches and paper prototypes to more high-fidelity mock-ups or even functional prototypes, depending on the project's scope and resources. The purpose of prototyping is to quickly test and iterate on ideas to see what works and what doesn't.
05
Test
Testing is the final stage of design thinking. It involves gathering feedback on the prototypes from actual users or stakeholders. The feedback collected during testing helps the design team refine and improve their solutions. Iterative testing and refinement are key components of this stage, and the process may loop back to earlier stages as needed to address new insights or challenges.
